| 1. What is the difference between the 870 Express and 870 Police shotguns? -870 Police Shotguns go through a special 21 station "police checks" section. These include tactile checks for burrs, visual checks for improper tooling marks, and a multitude of other checks to ensure positive feed and function. -Due to heavy recoil in buckshot and slug loads, all 870 Police shotguns have a longer magazine spring (22" instead of 16", and 28" in the magazine tube extensions). This heavier magazine spring holds the shell against the shell latch regardless of the recoil involved. -A different sear spring is used in the 870 Police, this spring will generate a trigger pull between 5 and 8 pounds. -A heavier carrier dog spring is used in the 870 Police Trigger Assembly. This ensures that when the carrier elevates the shell, it will be held there until the bolt can push it into the chamber. This is a benefit when shells with a heavy payload are used, such as 00 Buck or slugs. -870 Police Shotguns are equipped with a "magazine empty" blaze orange magazine follower. -870 Police Shotguns come standard with sling swivel studs included. -The fore-end on the 870 Express is longer and is not compatible with many police shotgun car lock systems, nor will it work correctly with a TacStar Side Saddle shotgun shell holder.. -The 870 Express will not allow for the addition of a magazine tube, unless physical modifications are made to the tube and barrel. Modifications on the firearm may nullify the warranty. 2. Can I order the new Remington Modular Combat Shotgun (MCS) if I am not a law enforcement officer? No. Per Remington their internal policy is to restrict this weapons package only to law enforcement officers and agencies. However, under NFA regulations it is a Short Barreled Shotgun which would be civilian transferable. 3. What other parts does Remington not offer for sale to civilians? -any shotgun barrel under 18" (NFA C2 Manufacturers only) -18" shotgun barrel with ghost ring sights (LE only) -Flexitab modification kits (LE only) -Magazine extension kits (LE only) -rear ghost ring sight assemblies (no parts sales) 4. Can I purchase a factory box from Remington? I lost my old one but for collecting purposes I'd like one. Yes, they are $5 direct from Remington + shipping. 5. Can you tell me the approximate date of manufacture of my shotgun and/or barrel given the serial number on the receiver, or proof marks on the barrel? Yes, we can. If you email us we will gladly assist you with this free of charge. 6. Do you offer a shotgun "tune-up" and offer factory-authorized repair services to civilians too? Absolutely. We are factory trained and authorized by Remington to inspect and repair your firearm as needed. We recommend that you have your firearm inspected annually (for civilian hunters/target shooters) or monthly (for law enforcement duty firearms). In some circumstances we would have to ship the firearm back to Ilion, NY, for certain repairs (due to the machinery needed to make the repair) but we would advise you and obtain your approval prior to shipping it to the factory. 7. I lost my Remington owners manual, how do I get another one? You can download one from Remington's website here: www.remington.com/magazine/downloads.htm#manuals |
